FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why a new college for the area?
If you live in the wider Warkworth region, you’ll know it’s growing fast! Auckland Council projects a 400% population increase, and the Snells Beach and Mahurangi Peninsula is set to also double in population. KingsWay Trust aims to offer a Christian secondary education for our growing community.
Where will the new college be located?
In 2016 KingsWay Trust purchased 14 hectares of rural land with classrooms, offices, tennis courts and an auditorium on site in Snells Beach on Goodall Drive, adjacent to the KingsWay Trust-owned Horizon School which currently offers Years 0 - 8.
What will the new college be like?
All KingsWay Trust schools around New Zealand, while uniquely responsive to their own communities, share some commonly held values. The new college in Snells Beach will cater for students in Year 7-13 and will provide an education which has a positive culture based on Christian values like faith in God, hope for the future, and love for ourselves, others and the world around us. We have a progressive educational approach as we want to prepare our students for their futures rather than our pasts. We will be committed to each learner as a whole person, and develop a curriculum that is responsive and, as much as possible, integrated with real life.
When is this likely to happen?
Timeline to date:
September 2016 – we were pleased to host a public community meeting in September 2016 with the local community in which we outlined our thoughts and gathered initial feedback, suggestions and questions from our community. These are valuable to us and will be considered by the team as we begin to plan for our new college.
March 2017 – KingsWay Trust’s application for a new college has been received by the Ministry of Education Auckland office in March 2017 and is going through the processes for sign off by the Minister of Education.
To date, verbal feedback from the Ministry has been positive and we look forward to getting moving as soon as we get the green light! We expect that to be by 2020 but we will keep you posted.
