Graeme Budler

Executive Principal

Graeme has been married to Colette for 25 years and has three children who have all had the privilege of attending KingsWay School. He enjoys a wide range of interests including squash, golf, hockey, drama, cycling, Bible study and academic reading. Graeme is involved in leadership at his church, runs a young adult Bible study and has led several missions both locally and abroad.

Graeme has experience with a wide range of ages and stages of students having taught primary, intermediate and more recently senior levels. Prior to his time at KingsWay School, he taught in both the state and private education sectors for 10 years and left education briefly for three years to join Scripture Union as a full time worker.

Graeme commenced his tenure at KingsWay in 2002 and has served as Head of Middle School, Deputy Principal, Associate Principal and currently as Executive Principal during this time. He has a passion for Christian education and has been integrally involved with shaping the KingsWay School curriculum. His goal is to continue to improve on the current achievements and strategic initiatives of the school and progress the excellent reputation that the school enjoys both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, he aims to ensure that the school and its satellites remain Christ-centred and an inspirational, professionally stimulating learning environment that provides best outcomes for students and their families.


 
 

Principal's Update

Term 1, 2018

The Board and management are committed to ensuring that KingsWay remains a vibrant Christian school of choice that prepares graduates to be servant leaders in the Kingdom of God.

Towards the end of 2017, the Education Review Team (ERO) conducted their scheduled cyclical evaluation of KingsWay and the school was placed on a five-year cycle which is the maximum attainment level, reserved for the top 10% of schools in New Zealand. The Board and Proprietor also chose to conduct an independent emergent evaluation of the effectiveness of the innovative learning environment at the Junior Campus. Consequently, the proprietor committed to several modifications to the studio layout and administration areas over the next few years.  In 2018, KingsWay will continue to look to the future and seek ways to promote equity and excellence for all its students.

KingsWay experienced significant changes to its structural makeup at the end of 2017; with Jireh being granted standalone status and no longer being a satellite of KingsWay and TTAA moving off site to Woodhill School near Helensville. While these changes were tinged with sadness, both moves were anticipated and as a result of of several years of planning, hard work and prayer. It is exciting to witness the growth of the ministry of Christian education in Auckland.  

The school’s roll continues to grow, and an additional Year 7 class and new entrant class have been added for the start of 2018. With growth comes several associated challenges and opportunities. To this end, the Board has recently approved several new initiatives.  Firstly, it commissioned a strategic growth plan - 2030 Strategic Growth and Development Plan for KingsWay in 2018. This process will be led by the Executive Principal and all stakeholders will be consulted during the process. Once approved, this document will inform future capital growth and student roll growth decision making. Secondly, it has approved KingsWay’s application to form a Kahui Ako or Community of Learning with Jireh Christian School, Westminster Christian School and any other interested early childhood and tertiary providers. The purpose of a Kahui Ako is to form strong and seamless links with feeder schools and institutions to enhance student outcomes.  Finally, it approved a teacher innovation and development fund to the value of $5K to be awarded annually to three members of staff. The award can be used to supplement related study, to attend a course, visit overseas schools, attend a conference, or a combination of the above and seek to promote and acknowledge staff innovation and service.

The outworking of the Christian special character of the school, remains a passionate vision of all management. The school has successfully led a Wednesday morning professional development focus for staff for the past two years. In 2018, staff and experts will be consulted on the introduction of a differentiated, special character professional development programme with the focus on equipping teachers to teach Christianly and from a biblical worldview.

I am confident that KingsWay School, with God’s help, is poised and ready to take on the next 30 years. I am looking forward to being part of this journey and will endeavour to ensure that the necessary leadership team is in place to continue this wonderful vision for outworking quality Christian education in Auckland.
